Waves: Day 46 #100PositiveDays

Life throws us twists, turns, and speed bumps all along the journey. These waves of challenge offer us the opportunity to roll with the punches and show our true strength. They also often create trying times with tears and heartbreak.

Up and down, in and out,
moving with such force,
they ripple through time.

Visitors stare off, gazes suspended,
enjoying the turbulence from afar;
others run, jump, and play within.

The colors dark blue,
fade lighter as they reach the shore,
bouts of white surface, reaching the end.

Swoosh, one moment,
then silence the next:
nature’s patterns unscripted.

Get too far in, you’ll find the waves massive,
but take a step back,
they won’t look so bad.

Wisdom: Day 23 #100PositiveDays

“Knowledge speaks, but wisdom listens.” -Jimi Hendrix

When I think of wisdom, I think of my grandmother.

Old folks are wise. They go hand in hand. These are people who have been through more experiences than us young’ins. Not only have they experienced these things, but they have learned from it and had time to reflect.

More importantly, they are able to listen. Old, wise people listen to you with both ears. Something most young people, including myself, struggle with.

My goal for the rest of this week: listen. This should really be a life goal… but I’m gonna work on it at least for this week! 😉

Footsteps: Day 22 #100PositiveDays

“Do not seek to follow in the footsteps of the wise. Seek what they sought.” – Matsuo Basho

Not sure why I immediately thought of ducks, but I couldn’t get them out of my head. So here are the ducks at my work, who always follow each other, wherever they go. I’ve got exams like crazy this week so we’re keeping it short and sweet.

Waddle,
Quack Quack,
Shake your tail.

Stepping
Left, Left,
Left. Right. Left.

One foot
in front
of the other.

Leader
and pack,
marching on.

Leaving
footprints
behind us.

Making
a path
none have gone.

Music: Day 19 #100PositiveDays

“To be humble, to be kind.
It is the giving of the peace in your mind.
To a stranger, To a friend
To give in such a way that has no end.

We are Love
We are One
We are how we treat each other when the day is done.
We are Peace
We are War
We are how we treat each other and Nothing More

To be bold, to be brave.
It is the thinking that the heart can still be saved
And the darkness can come quick
The Dangers in the Anger and the hanging on to it.

We are Love
We are One
We are how we treat each other when the day is done.
We are Peace
We are War
We are how we treat each other and Nothing More

Tell me what it is that you see
A world that’s filled with endless possibilities?
Heroes don’t look they used to, they look like you do.

We are Love
We are One
We are how we treat each other when the day is done.
We are Peace
We are War
We are how we treat each other and Nothing More”

-The Alternate Routes: “Nothing More”

I discovered this song about a month ago and was inspired immediately. We are how we treat each other and nothing moreNothing more. Truly, the only thing that matters is how we treat each other. It’s all too easy to get caught up in the stresses of the day; honking at the car in front of us for not going when the light turns green, hurriedly walking past someone almost knocking them over, letting the door close behind us without waiting for the next person. We let words hurt us and we let that impact how we speak to others. I vouch to try and do better.

Family: Day 13 #100PositiveDays

“A family can develop only with a loving woman as its center.” -Karl Wilhelm Friedrich Schlegel

dbacks2013.1.1376183451.1 copy_2

My inspiration, my strength, my role model, my hero.

Business woman, family-centered, so many talents, still so humble.

Nurse first, executive second, she cares about people, that’s why she does it.

Dancing queen, karaoke diva, party crasher, so much laughter.

Tender-hearted, passionate, opinionated, compassionate.

Always busy, answers my calls. Emily comes first, she tells them all.

Intelligent, leader, fearless, full of love,

She has influenced so many, and conquered the world. But no one admires her more, than I, her daughter.

Mom you are amazing. If I’m even just a tiny bit like you, I know I’ll save the world, ‘cuz that’s just what you do.

How does your family keep you positive?

Heart: Day 12 #100PositiveDays

“Profound joy of the heart is like a magnet that indicates the path of life.” – Mother Teresa

For as long as I can remember, my mom has been telling people “Emily is going to save the world.” Obviously, this is quite the daunting task. I do not mean to suggest that by any means I will save the entire world, but I do have a passion for changing at least some small part of it.

The Horses

As a little girl, I fell in love with horses. Not just their beauty, the rush of riding them, or the friendship they provide, but also their hearts. You can tell a horse anything and they will still stand there with the same kind eyes, without any judgement, and just listen. You can hear more about my love for the barn on this post here, but today I’m writing specifically about where my heart has taken me.

Gratitude: Day 10 #100PositiveDays

“When it comes to life, the critical thing is whether you take things for granted or take them with gratitude.” – Gilbert K Chesterton

Today I am thankful for the gift of exercise. I know I recently wrote about strength and that it isn’t all about physical muscle, but the fact that I am able to get out of bed every day and use my body, is a blessing.

Yesterday my mom and I took my dog for a walk, in keeping with our new Saturday tradition. There is a great walking path where she works and my 10 year old dog helps us keep a good pace, wet nose leading the way. Yesterday evening I used my therapy bands and equipment and did some exercises. Some days, my body just is not up for exercise and my joints ache so much that it’s impossible to do even the easiest exercises. But I can’t get in the habit that I often fall into of letting that be my normal, and taking for granted the days when I do feel well enough to work out. I have to be thankful for those days God has given me and use them to my advantage so that I will hopefully have more of them, the more I stabilize my joints and gain muscle.

Strength: Day 8 #100PositiveDays

“Choose rather to be strong of soul than strong of body.” Pythagoras

Strength is relative. My Strong, may not be the same Strong that it was last year, and it’s definitely not the same as your Strong. But in the end, Strength is needed for us all to “keep on keepin’ on” and get through the hard stuff.

Strength can be measured in terms of physical muscle mass. It can be measured by perseverance. Strength can be measured by emotions, athletic Strength, Strength in talents, Strength in relationships, etc. Strength cannot just be measured in the amount of time you spend at the gym or how far you run.
