Those who are easily shocked should be shocked more often. – Mae West
I’m so excited for this one! Just the other day I saw a posting on Facebook that read:
“To start this year off in a loving way is participating in the Pay-it-Forward initiative… The first five people who comment on this status with “I’m in” will receive a surprise from me at some point in this calendar year- anything from a book, a ticket, a visit, something home grown or made, a postcard, absolutely any surprise! There will be no warning and it will happen when the mood comes over me and I find something that I believe would suit you and make you happy…Let’s do more nice and loving things for each other in 2014, without any reason other than to make each other smile and show that we think of each other.”
I have decided to take part in this great exchange of kindness, despite not sharing it on Facebook. How nice would it be to wake up and walk outside your door to go to work or school and see a gift sitting at your door. Or maybe you come home to find flowers sitting on the counter. A surprise delivery of soup on a bad day. Even a nice card with a piece of candy can turn an awful day into a special one. It may be even more fun to do it anonymously and have the person wondering who cared enough to go out of their way and bring a gift. Just knowing that someone out there cares about you can really make a world of difference. This year, I encourage you, to surprise someone, with a random act of kindness.
I will return to this post and share the pictures of my random acts. But for now, share your ideas for what special things you would like someone to surprise you with!
Surprise me once,
shame on you.
Surprise me twice,
do it again!!
Click here for lots of ideas for random acts of kindness!
1. Take what you need. See post here.
2. Drawing Dallas Clayton chalk messages around town
3. Feeding someone’s expired parking meter at a coffee shop today
I love this idea! I think an anonymous, handwritten note is a great way to brighten someone’s day. 🙂
